Hues of Yellow

A simple colour, Yellow.
Stunning and bright
But sometimes mellow.

The flirtatious cheeriness of daffodils,
The opulent hue of gold.
The unctous paleness of butter
Or the bright passion of fire, behold!

The auspicious tinge of turmeric
The prosperous beauty of mustard fields
The soul warming glow of a sunbeam
Or the striking sunflower following it.

The gravitas of honey, a burnished deep gold
Of nectar and the tiny bee’s soul
The orangish hue of marigold
Standing pretty bright and bold

And who has the words to define,
The supreme Lord Krishna and His beauty divine?

His garland of bright kaner flowers, His opulent yellow silk garments?
The propitious fragrant sandalwood paste, the brilliance of gems and diamonds?

Yellow adorned on His magnificent dark form
Like the sun amidst clouds harbingering a storm.

Yellow is love, yellow is beauty
Yellow is Krishna’s garments and His favourite flower
Yellow is prosperous and auspicious
Yellow is warmth, yellow is power.

Yellow is sunshine and gold and butter and fire
Is it right to call yellow simply a colour?
